«Моя история про протяженность пространства, возможность и невозможность его измерения. У Ивана Чуйкова в работе «Панорама-2» (1976) пространство фрагментировано и зациклено само на себе, нечто беспредельное сведено до формулы и объекта, кодирующего эту формулу. Художник достигает вариативности пейзажа при его полной неизменности. В моей работе деревянные раскрашенные фигуры расположены на вращающихся осях, подобно молитвенным барабанам в буддийских храмах. В определенном положении на срезах фигур возникает нарисованный шариковой ручкой пейзаж, но по объекту можно провести рукой и изображение исчезнет, став просто нагромождением цветных форм. Зрители могут вращать фрагменты, могут увидеть и сложить плоскости в единое изображение, но по сути ничего не изменится — пейзаж по-прежнему будет сложен из форм елок, грибов, куполов и неопознаннных балясинных форм...»
My story is about extension of space as well as possibility and impossibility of measuring it.
In Ivan Chuikov's work "Panoram-2" (1976) the space is fragmentized and focused on itself, something limitless is narrowed down to formula or an object, encoding its formula. An artist achieves variability of the landscape with its complete permanence. In my work the painted wooden figures are placed on rotating axes, similar to praying wheels in a Buddhist temples. In a certain position on a cross sections of figures the landscape drawn by ballpoint pen is appearing. You can swipe your hand over the object and the image will disappear turning into the pile of colored shapes. Viewers can rotate fragments, they could see and put flats together into one image but in fact nothing would change – the landscape would still be composed from pine tree shapes, mushrooms, domes and unidentified banister shapes…"
